MERRY CHRISTMAS

Annnd just like that it's Christmas. This is my first Christmas without snow, and it's got me into a tiny Christmas funk.  Instead of snow there is rain, and unless Mother Nature decides to turn this little island into a snowglobe within the next twenty-four hours, we're all doomed!

Well, not really, but you get my point.  Sometimes we need to find happiness in what we've got and what we lack in snow, we make up for with glitter and some magic.

Okaaayy, maybe the glitter was a bit much, but you get my point.  Right??  And while Chachi patiently waits for Mr. Kris Kringle, I want thank you all for making this year as fabulous as it was.

And if you're like me - falling into puddles instead of snow piles - make a glitter angel outside.  I promise you, you won't regret it.  Merry Christmas.  All of you.  I wish you nothing but happiness, love, and joy during this holiday season!

BOHEMIAM WINTER WONDERLAND

When I decided to take on photography, my end result goal was to only shoot weddings.  I like the idea of working with a client for months and months then finally shooting one of the most important days of their lives.   I feel that it suits my style and personality more than shooting the typical family portrait (which, don't get me wrong, I don't mind doing them, I just think their not so much my style).  But how do you book a client for a wedding when you've never done it before?

I have to admit, I started this business in the middle of wedding season, so I knew I wouldn't get any bookings.  Also, the opportunity to second shoot/assist went out the door because everyone was already booked and had made previous arrangements - which is fine!  I was prepared for this.  So I started to think outside the box.  I called up a friend and asked her to find a white dress.  I went to Thrifty Foods and bought some flowers, picked some holly and bough from the front yard to make the bouquet and head piece.  I did her hair and make-up and we were out the door!

I decided to set up this mini styled-shoot so I could start building my wedding portfolio.  You got to start somewhere, right?!  I love how everything turned out.  I had a vision and it came out exactly how I pictured it in my head.  Take a look into my Bohemian Winter Wonderland and let me know what you think :)

Thank you Etana for being a lovely model.  I really appreciate your patience and willingness to help a sista out! ;)

Happy Monday!

IMPROMPTU CHRISTMAS SESSION

Sometime last week I was watching my grandsiblings and they noticed I had a helium balloon in my room.  As they reached out to touch it, I found myself stopping them.  Whaaaat?  It was part of my decor for the week, I didn't want them messing with the feng shui.  But then I looked into their cute little faces and I instantly felt horrible.  I thought back to when I was their age and remembered how amazing it was to have a floating balloon.  It was like a virtual toy.  They were the bomb.

Not wanting to give away my balloon - whaaaaat? the feng shui remember... - I remembered I had a helium tank lying around somewhere.  I could fix all these problems with a flick of a switch, so I fixed all of them up some balloons and problem solved.  I felt like a champ.  But then I got to thinking.  The week previous my sister had mentioned Christmas card photos and I thought, how rad would it be to write Merry Christmas on a balloon and pose with them.  Cute, right?  Not wanting to miss out on the gorgeous weather we've been having (and good thing 'cause it's been raining ever since) we made a quick stop to the store for some balloons, came home and snapped away.

I think we did pretty good for last minute.

Jade wanted some pictures too :)

Happy Saturday!

SENIOR PORTRAITS: MEGAN

These technically aren't senior portraits, but hey! They're close enough!  Megan came home from University last week for reading break.  We thought how lovely it would be to take some pictures, before she left for school once more, so her family could have a little piece of her while she's gone.  Megan is the oldest of two children, so you can only imagine how tough it is for the little family of four to lose one of their own so quickly.

It ended up being a beautiful fall day (I've heard today may be the last of the sunshine) and the day couldn't have been more perfect.  Megan, thank you for allowing me to document this time in your life and I seriously wish you all the best with everything you do. xo

What's a session without a little treat afterward?!  Since we were nearby, we stopped by Serious Coffee for London fogs to warm our souls from the briskly cold fall air.
